Whittaker Section: System/Network Destination: any Depends: smb-codepages, initscript, busybox (>= 1.11.2-1), libc6 (>= 2.7-1) Recommends: nmbd, smbpasswd Description: An antique but small SMB file server This build of a long-since surpassed version of Samba is intended for the sole purpose of providing SMB file shares using share-level security (ie. anonymous access). Specifically, it is intended for use with samba_autoshare to share filesystems on local storage devices. Do NOT try to join this server to any kind of Windows domain, as it is far too old to work properly in this role (unless you're still running Windows NT 3.51 or something). . Anonymous access gives the remote user the same privileges as "nobody" locally. It is also possible to map a share as [HOSTNAME\\]root for full access. The default SMB root password is the same as the default system root password. You can use smbpasswd to change this. . Nmbd is not included, so you must install this separately if you want your shares to be browseable. . This server is not CIFS compliant, and might well be Swiss cheese (i.e. full of holes) as far as security is concerned. But it is, relatively speaking, very small.
