Package: cifsd Provides: smb-server Conflicts: smbd Priority: optional Version: 2.2.12-4 Source: samba Architecture: __ARCH__ Maintainer: Paul A. Whittaker Section: System/Network Destination: any Depends: smb-codepages, initscript, busybox (>= 1.11.2-1), libc6 (>= 2.7-1) Recommends: nmbd, smbpasswd Description: A CIFS/SMB file server This version of Samba, although still obsolete, is considerably more functional than Samba 1.x, whilst avoiding the flab of Samba 3.x. As the name suggests, the most significant difference between this package and smbd is that this package supports CIFS and smbd doesn't. However, this package is substantially larger. . This build of Samba is not LDAP/Kerberos capable, and is not really intended for use as a domain-joined server. It is possible to join it to a domain, but without native Active Directory support and supporting components like winbindd and libnss_winbind this isn't very useful. As with the smbd package, its intended purpose is to provide standalone anonymous CIFS access to disk volumes that are detected and mounted by storage-detect. . Nmbd is not included, so you must install this separately if you want your shares to be browseable.
