This is useful for running a separate X11/XDMCP desktop in a locally managed (sub)window, such that you have an embedded "X11 client" that behaves the same way as clients for other protocols (ICA, RDP, RFB etc). . You can configure the host X11 server to connect to a remote XDM server instead, but this typically means surrendering window management to a remote window manager that has no access to local resources, and the session can only be managed from outside the GUI environment. Hence using Xnest may be more aesthetically pleasing in some situations. . Please note that even though the Xnest server appears to be able to access fonts independently of its host X11 server, this is actually not the case. In practice the host X11 server's font path must be the same as, or a superset of, Xnest's. . Xfont and fontenc libraries have been statically linked (to minimize the total footprint).
